The shedding of innocent blood has brought the judgment of God as documented from the first pages of Genesis to the last pages in Revelation. My Bible reading in Jeremiah yesterday brought this issue again to the forefront.
The idea of temple prostitutes might seem strange to us, but the Goddess sex queen Asherah (Asherim were idols to her that Israel set up and worshipped) brought the worship of sex hand in hand with child sacrifice, which was the final straw for God’s patience and insured the destruction of Israel and bondage of Israel to other nations.
Are our Asherim now produced by the media and set up in our living rooms? And is our sacrifice of innocent blood, the abundance of abortion in our country and in the western world, been done to enable the continual worship of sex?
“The sin of Judah is written down with an iron stylus; With a diamond point it is engraved upon the tablet of their heart And on the horns of their altars, As they remember their children, So they remember their altars and their Asherim By green trees on the high hills… And you will, even of yourself, let go of your inheritance That I gave you; And I will make you serve your enemies In the land which you do not know; For you have kindled a fire in My anger Which will burn forever. Thus says the LORD… because they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, a thing which I never commanded or spoke of, nor did it ever enter My mind… Behold, I am about to bring on this city and all its towns the entire calamity that I have declared against it, because they have stiffened their necks so as not to heed My words.”
There are few in our culture that are innocent, but we have chosen to discard in pools of blood the few that are. Does judgment stand at the door?
We are entering an era today in which unhindered abortion at any stage of development is fully approved (and soon to be encouraged) by the controlling party of the two legislative branches of our federal government and the executive branch. And little stands in the way of their actions to change the makeup of the Supreme Court enabling unfettered bloodletting in our country.
May our God move, in justice and in mercy, to end this slaughter.
