While “the news” may be of some use, I’ve come to the conviction that our main source of truth is Biblical truth, and so I have committed to searching that truth daily.
We are finding ourselves in an incredible mess as a country. We’ve placed our trust in evil regimes (yes, even more evil than the US) to provide our everyday basic needs for food, and covering.
Our wicked governmental leadership has cobbled our ability to provide and has turned to worshiping the earth and its creation rather than God.
My reading today took me to this passage in Deuteronomy: “If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God is testing you to find out if you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall follow the LORD your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him. But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has counseled rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to seduce you from the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from among you.
I’ve sat in a number of corporate meetings where the focus was following ESG principles (though I’m loath to call them principles). ESG is Environmental, Social, and Governmental.
Here’s how ESG and Biblical truth collide.
Google “Gaia Worship” and you’ll find the environmental error. As it says in Romans 1, “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised.” We’ve abandoned our Biblical God and chosen to worship the world around us.
In January the Biden administration bought into the Green New Deal (pure Gaia worship) wholeheartedly when it attacked the fossil fuels industry in our country. The Keystone XL project was just the tip of the iceberg. There was (and is) a multi-pronged attack on our ability to product energy locally. At the same time, we placed more dependence on countries that don’t take nearly the care to protect the environment that we do.
Now we (and the whole world) find ourselves in a near-apocalyptic situation, on the brink of nuclear war (yes, really).
Time keeps me from addressing the “S” and “G” in ESG this morning, but I will follow up, Lord willing, in the next few days. Take heart, however, and mediate on God’s word.
“God, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved. Do not remember the iniquities of our forefathers against us; Let Your compassion come quickly to meet us, For we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; And deliver us and forgive our sins for Your name’s sake. Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Let there be known among the nations in our sight, Vengeance for the blood of Your servants which has been shed. Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; According to the greatness of Your power preserve those who are doomed to death…”
“Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself. Then we shall not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name. O LORD God of hosts, restore us; Cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.”
“Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed. “I will make justice the measuring line And righteousness the level; Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies And the waters will overflow the secret place. “Your covenant with death will be canceled, And your pact with Sheol will not stand; When the overwhelming scourge passes through, Then you become its trampling place.”
